Theatres | Mace
Much like the stage it houses, a theater's building reflects the exploration of many ideas. Often a combination of historic architecture, modern technology and spatial design, challenges are considerable no matter if the project is a renovation or new build. Mace has wide experience in delivering theatrical spaces from the recreation of the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester after the IRA bombing to the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford. In all cases, we strive to understand what these projects mean to the client organisations, the theatre companies for which they are homes, and the public that value them so highly.
In addition to our programme and project management, construction delivery, cost consultancy and facilities management offers, we use 4D modelling systems to create fly-throughs that demonstrate how every aspect of the construction process will take place. This helps our clients to plan their own work around the disruption, and to plan communications to their own stakeholders – both vital in such public projects.
Our theatre projects are always exercises in thoughftul and innovative construction, and we embrace the challenges head on: how to minimise disruption to the theatre going public; how to deliver a construction project safely on a restricted city centre site; and how to involve the community in the project. Our approach works: The Royal Shakespeare Theatre was delivered in July 2010 under budget and on schedule to the day - rare achievements in the world of arts construction.
