The Hacienda

  • Mace transforms a Manchester landmark into a high-end residential building.

In central Manchester, the Hacienda apartment building borrows its name from a famous nightclub owned by band New Order that once stood on the industrial site. The location's cultural legacy, as well as its position at a busy road junction and bounded by the Rochdale Canal and a mainline railway, demanded a high-quality, well-coordinated product. In addition, a fast programme and tight budget required control and efficiency. Mace served as construction manager on the 12-story residential building, delivering it on time, under budget and to the level of quality deserving of a landmark site.

The Hacienda apartment building comprises 156 high-specification apartments in a prime city-centre location, built around a reinforced concrete frame. It also includes two levels of car parking and retail. The facades feature punched brickwork with stonework and zinc cladding, creating a contemporary look that remains sympathetic to the surrounding architecture. Featuring contemporary interiors, the former location of "24-Hour Party People" now offers 24-hour living for Manchester residents.
