Mace is delighted that this year’s prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize has been awarded to Evelyn Grace Academy. Delivered by Mace through a design and build contract, the academy has been recognised for its outstanding design by Zaha Hadid Architects, Zaha’s second consecutive Stirling Prize.

The awards ceremony, presented by Kevin McCloud, took place in the Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham, itself the winner of the 2001 RIBA Stirling Prize. It was broadcasted on a special edition of BBC Two’s The Culture Show

Evelyn Grace Academy was up against strong competition. Shortlists included An Gaelaras in Derry, The Angel Building in London, Folkwang Museum in Essen, plus two other Mace projects: The Royal Shakespeare Theatre designed by Bennetts Associates and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Velodrome, designed by Hopkins Architects and delivered by Mace, as part of the CLM consortium.

The Stirling Prize is now in its sixteenth year. Hosted by Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in association with The Architects’ Journal and Benchmark, it is awarded to architects for the best new European building, built or designed in Britain.

Mace director Terry Spraggett said:

"A fantastic result for Evelyn Grace – we are delighted to have been involved in such an exceptional project which has clearly made a significant impact on the students, staff and local residents. As one of three Mace projects shortlisted, we are proud of our ongoing involvement delivering some of the most well-regarded, innovative, and engaging buildings which are changing the landscape of Britain today."
