CEO's financial statement - 2006
About Mace
2006 was an excellent year for the Mace Group. In the past twelve months we have achieved more than ever before. Our turnover has grown by more than 37% from £271m to £372m with an operating profit increase of 9%. Our client satisfaction of 82% is at an all time high and we are maintaining a staff satisfaction level of 83%. This in a year during which we have won three of the world’s most prestigious projects: delivery partner for the London 2012 Olympics as part of CLM, construction manager on the London Bridge Shard and project manager on the Dubai World Trade Centre. We have continued to out-perform our competitors and build stronger relationships with our clients.
I am delighted to report that the period saw increasing growth, including rises in revenue, repeat order business and profit, accompanied by a significant increase in work within each of the global regions in which we operate. We have created a strong order book and there is a high level of confidence across the business as we go forward.
And 2007 promises even more. Our unique organisation is primed to deliver some of the most challenging management and construction projects and solutions across the world in what will be the company’s 17th year of operation. The London Bridge Shard which started on site before programme in 2007 will redefine the capital’s skyline and will be the first truly mixed use, ‘vertical city’ in Europe. The 260 hectare site for Heathrow’s Terminal 5 will accommodate 30 million passengers a year when it opens in 2008. Our public sector consultancy work continues to delight our clients with two programmes achieving a client satisfaction score of 100% in 2006: Nations Healthcare for the Burton-on-Trent hospital project and Hertfordshire County Council for our property framework agreement. Since our framework appointment with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the end of 2005, work is underway on four new embassy projects in Zimbabwe, Algeria, Poland and the Philippines. Opening in 2007, the 3,000 suite Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau has established Mace in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our consultancy and construction services continue to deliver innovative solutions and quality projects both in the UK and abroad.
Our success in 2006 is perhaps best encapsulated by our inclusion in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. After all, if there was one project to win in 2006, this was it. This appointment consolidated Mace’s position as the UK’s premier programme and project management company, and continues to promote Mace on the world stage. The opportunity to work alongside the ODA, delivering what will be one of the greatest construction projects of our time, is an immense honour and this appointment has created a sense of pride and responsibility throughout the company. Mace is well known for its consistent ability to spearhead best practice in the construction industry and there is no doubt that the London 2012 programme will provide an important catalyst for positive change and development within UK construction.
The board and I are proud that Mace has grown into one of the world’s most diverse management and construction companies, a company that has an enviable reputation for always finding the best solutions to complex property and real estate challenges. We employ and empower the best people who work with our clients to deliver quality projects and products faster, more safely and efficiently, whilst defining industry best practice.
