1. CR and Our Workplace
About Mace
Mace aims to be the best employer of the best people, the employer of choice in the industry. Staff need to be skilled, experienced and motivated to ensure that we meet our business objectives, while we have a legal duty to our employees in areas such as health & safety and equal opportunities. But we also have a social duty to provide an environment which allows performance & career management, learning & development, appropriate remuneration & benefits and a healthy work-life balance. These are all part of our responsibilities to our staff and are addressed through a coordinated HR strategy.
Since 2001 we have been Investors in People accredited, and provide ongoing measurement of our people-focused initiatives and policies to meet the strict IiP criteria, covering workforce profile, training & development, staff satisfaction and staff turnover.
2007 was assigned Year of the Staff, as a direct response to feedback we received in our staff survey last year, in which employees were keen to see if there were ways in which we could help them better achieve a healthy work/life balance. The group board recognises it has a responsibility to all our employees, and has listened to what they have said is important to them.
The result of these initiatives and the unerring commitment we have made to our staff, is uniquely high levels on staff satisfaction (92% in our 2006 survey), and a company which has firmly established itself among the most envied of employers.
2007 Year of the Staff
As a direct response to feedback we received in our annual staff survey last year, in which employees were keen to see if there were ways in which we could help them better achieve a healthy work/life balance, we have introduced a number of significant improvements to employees' terms and conditions, benefits and the working environment - 2007 is ‘Year of the Staff' at Mace. Tangible improvements to pensions, maternity/paternity arrangements, medical cover and working hours have been tied together in a comprehensive package. This year alone working hours across the business were reduced to 36.5 hours a week; two extra ‘Mace Days' per year were launched; the annual medical scheme was rolled out; maternity and paternity leave allowance was improved; and pension contributions were increased.
